Hello and welcome!

Thank you for taking the time to visit my site. My goal with this website is to inspire more educators to take on the challenge of centering climate justice education in our classrooms. It's going to take a grassroots effort to move the needle, and if anyone has the power to make it happen, it's teachers. I look at my students, and I see them already suffering from climate change. I want to provide them with the tools they need to successfully combat this crisis in their lifetimes.

My Story

I am a social studies teacher with 18 years of experience in classrooms ranging from urban Title I, to suburban, to rural, and online. My BA is in History from Roosevelt University in Chicago, but I started my college career at AMDA in NYC studying musical theatre. My genuine love for the study of history drew me back to the academic fold, but I thought I was headed for law school until I substitute taught and discovered I absolutely love those light bulb moments too much to do anything else. I earned my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, and am now working to complete my Ed.D in Curriculum Theory at Georgia Southern University. Even though I now coordinate two International Baccalaureate programs (the DP and the CP), and only teach IB History, I still consider myself a teacher first. It's in this space where I developed a desire to help my students confront the real challenges climate change are presenting to marginalized people all over the world, but also locally in our coastal community of Savannah, GA.  As a Fulbright Scholar, I have had the chance to explore Global Citizenship Education, and my upcoming journey to Ghana will give me a chance to critically reflect on the role the West and the North play in causing these problems, and to help me develop partnerships with teachers in the global South so that we can work together to develop educational frameworks that will increase awareness, understanding, and problem-solving.  This website is a place where I can share ideas, hopefully connect with like-minded partners, and provide resources for educators interested in taking up this cause as well.
